TOA Benefits Update

Support and Assistance from TOA and AOA

Throughout this challenging week, the Texas and American Optometric Associations have focused on the harmful impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the family of optometry. Through various video and phone conferences on both the state and national level, the TOA and AOA unanimously agreed-upon actions to help meet the urgent and immediate needs of our members, optometry, and their patients. The TOA/AOA are implementing these actions:

    • Two Month Membership Dues Pause - Both TOA and AOA will pause dues for two months in April and May

    • Two Month Donations Pause - Both TOPAC and Focus Texas will pause donations for two months in April and May.

    • Dues and Assessment Freeze - No TOA/AOA membership dues increases or assessments through 2021

    • Around the Clock Effort - TOA's staff and volunteers have been working tirelessly to gather and inform Texas optometrists on guidelines, assistance and resource information as it becomes available

    • TOA's COVID-19 Task Force - daily discussions to address all issues affecting ODs

    • TOA's Outreach Efforts - TOA working with state leaders (Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Patrick) for the crisis response

    • Practice Advice from Practice Compliance Solutions (PCS) - Human resources, Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) programs, Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan information, practice compliance, telehealth, decision-making considerations available on their website(Click Here).

    • Lobbying Activated - Texas ODs activated to lobby Congress for inclusion in the COVID-19 Response Phase 2 and Phase 3 Relief Bills

The TOA and AOA will continue to support you in every way possible during this unprecedented time. We must unite as colleagues to navigate the uncertainties facing our practices and our patients. Optometry has always been defined by grit and determination and we must summon those inherent traits now to face this new and different crisis. More than ever before, we say thank to our members and volunteers for all that you do for optometry. Never forget - We are Doctors of Optometry working together to advance excellence in eyecare for every Texan.
