New Member Dues–A new member, who is not a new licensee, pays annual dues that are prorated according to the following: If a new member joins during the first quarter of the year, then he or she will pay seventy-five percent (75%) of the annual dues otherwise applicable, during the second quarter—fifty percent (50%), during the third quarter—twenty-five percent (25%), and during the fourth quarter—no dues will be paid.
AOA 2009 Dues–An active member, federal services member, or special class member will not be required to pay any dues during the calendar year in which the individual first obtains a license to practice optometry or transfers from the post-graduate membership classification. The dues for each of the first, second, third and fourth calendar year thereafter will be equivalent to ten percent (10%), twenty percent (20%), fifty percent (50%), and seventy-five percent (75%) respectively, of the annual dues otherwise applicable. A member will only be eligible for the above schedule of reduced dues once, no matter how many times the individual may transfer from one membership classification to another membership classification.
Other Dues categories include special classes of membership including retirees, active over 72 years old, Out of State Affiliates, Federal Service, Life member, Optometric Educator, Student, Semi-active, and so on. If you believe you fall into one of these special categories please include this information on your application.
Partial Practice Members- Your percentage of dues is determined by days worked per week. Eight (8) hours is considered to be one day worked.

AFVA Dues (Voluntary)- Spouses of active members are invited to be members of the American Foundation for Vision Awareness (AFVA). The AFVA annual dues amount is $25.00 and represents State dues only, National dues may be paid directly to the St. Louis office.
